Softball Recap: Penn Comes Up Short

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Penn couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Crown Point Bulldogs by a score of 4-2 on Saturday. The loss continues a trend for the Kingsmen in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.

Caitlyn Denny was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in May.

On the hitting side, Izabella Hanna made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Ava Zachary was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Penn's defeat dropped their record down to 25-5. As for Crown Point, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 30-4.

Penn does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Crown Point, they will challenge Center Grove at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their 17th straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight.
