The Eastern Comets will face off against the Jay County Patriots at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Eastern comes in on four and Jay County on three.
Eastern proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 11) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Delphi Community, sneaking past 5-3.
Paige Wesner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emillia Andrews, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Elle Winger, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Jay County never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over Bluffton. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Zoe Mclaughlin was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mclaughlin was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Hallie Schwieterman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Brenna Ruble was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Jay County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bluffton only posted an OBP of .286.
Jay County's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Eastern, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Eastern has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Jay County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Eastern came up short against Jay County when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 11-7. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
