Softball Recap: Galatia/Thompsonville Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Galatia/Thompsonville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Pope County Pirates with a sharp 15-5 win on Friday. The Bearcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.

Kailyn Kahl made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Lucy Mortag was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Miley Murphy, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Galatia/Thompsonville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Galatia/Thompsonville's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pope County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
