Baseball Recap: West Anchorage Comes Up Short

West Anchorage extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 3-6-1. They lost 11-1 to the Service Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, with their most recent loss being a 7-4 defeat two weeks ago.

As for Service, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 10-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average this season.

For Service's part, Noah Cummings made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Cummings has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other pitching news, Service gave Ashton Miller the start and clearly made the right call: he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Miller has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Service let Rilen Niclai and Kegan Lennox run wild. Niclai got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Lennox went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Niclai has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Takumi Kosaka, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Anchorage will host Lathrop at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Service, they will welcome Palmer at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Moose have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
