The Dixon Rams will head out on the road to take on the Rio Linda Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Dixon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Dixon fell victim to Destiny Christian Academy and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Lions, falling 13-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Rams in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost three in a row.
Dixon saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Morris, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Rio Linda waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Huskies by a score of 8-3.
Kiera Waggoner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Rio Linda got a massive performance out of Liv Johnson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Johnson a new career-high. Roxie Alvarez was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Rio Linda was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sutter only posted a batting average of .160.
Rio Linda pushed their record up to 20-6 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Dixon, their loss dropped their record down to 13-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Dixon hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Rio Linda struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Dixon's way against Rio Linda in their previous meeting back in April, as Dixon made off with a 9-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
