Basketball Recap: Athens Sets Scoring Season-High Against Thorp

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Athens). They enjoyed a cozy 71-55 victory over the Thorp Cardinals on Tuesday. This was payback for the Bluejays, who suffered a 52-43 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Athens is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-14 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points over those games. As for Thorp, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.

Athens and Thorp could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. Athens will take on Auburndale at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday down 333 places (410 vs. 77). Similarly, Thorp (ranked 457th) will meet Owen-Withee (ranked 173rd) at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
