Basketball Game Preview: Independence Knights vs. Liberty Redhawks

Independence is 0-10 against Liberty since January of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Independence Knights will take on the Liberty Redhawks at 1:00 p.m.

Independence is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game two weeks ago. They had to suffer through a 59-27 loss at the hands of Memorial. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 716th, while the Warriors are ranked 27th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Liberty, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 35-16 win over Royse City on Tuesday.

Liberty has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.5 points per game. As for Independence, they now have a losing record at 7-8.

Independence took a serious blow against Liberty in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 59-11. Can Independence avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
