Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Carmel Sundevils vs. Rancho Bernardo Broncos

For the second straight game, Mt. Carmel will face off against Rancho Bernardo. The Sundevils will challenge the Broncos at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Mt. Carmel's offense. They came up short against Rancho Bernardo on Thursday, falling 7-0. The Sundevils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Rancho Bernardo's part, Noah Villa tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over 6.2 innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Villa a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Brady Strachan was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as he's now launched at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Cole Pittman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Mt. Carmel's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11-1. As for Rancho Bernardo, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 16-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mt. Carmel has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rancho Bernardo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
