Basketball Recap: Nikiski Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Ninilchik, Nikiski was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the Tok Wolverines by a score of 63-51. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 69-47 victory the Wolverines walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Chairo Espinosa and Marvin Captain certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Espinosa dropped a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards, while Captain posted 22 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Captain is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 11 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Hipp, who put up five points and ten boards.

Nikiski's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-15. As for Tok, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Coming up, Nikiski will take on Seward at 4:30 p.m. on February 22nd. As for Tok, they will face off against Effie Kokrine Charter on Friday. Tok is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season.
