Basketball Recap: Maricopa Piles Up the Points Against Cuyama Valley

Maricopa was handed a heart-breaking three-point loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Cuyama Valley on Tuesday. The Maricopa Indians simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Cuyama Valley Bears 55-18. The Indians have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 30 points or more this season.

Leading Maricopa to victory were Michael Grysko and Diego Rivera. Grysko dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 boards, while Rivera dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. With that strong performance, Rivera is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Stroud, who posted six points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Maricopa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Maricopa's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Cuyama Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Maricopa won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Laton at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cuyama Valley, they will take on Valley Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
