Baseball Recap: Somerset Tech Find Success

Somerset Tech let Highland Park stack four runs on them in the fourth inning on Thursday but luckily Somerset Tech prevailed anyway. The Jaguars skirted past the Owls 6-5. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Owls recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Caden Winnicki was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Somerset Tech is 3-1 when Winnicki posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Somerset Tech got a big performance out of Nathanael White, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three hits gave White a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Torres, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

Somerset Tech now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Highland Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.

Coming up, Somerset Tech will welcome South Hunterdon at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Highland Park, they will square off against Perth Amboy Vo-Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.57 runs per game on average), something the Owls will no doubt try to take advantage of.
