Basketball Recap: Wayne Comes Up Short

After flying high against Escalante last Thursday, Wayne came back down to earth. The Wayne Badgers fell 62-52 to the Rockwell Marshals on Saturday.

Despite the loss, Wayne still got an impressive performance from Hunter Robins, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Robins has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times he's played.

Rockwell was led to victory by Isaac Christiansen and Devon Jessop. Christiansen went 7 of 14 on his way to 19 points along with five boards and four steals, while Jessop went 6 of 14 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals. With that strong performance, Christiansen is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaysen Rife, who posted 12 points.

Wayne's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Rockwell, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wayne will take on Bryce Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bryce Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season. As for Rockwell, they will host American Prep WV at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. American Prep WV also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 57.9 points per game.
