Basketball Recap: Jersey Takes a Loss

Jersey lost against Carlyle back in December of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Sunday. The Jersey Panthers came up short against the Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians, falling 65-40. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 468th, while the Indians/Lady Indians are ranked 56th).

Despite the loss, Jersey still got an impressive performance from Hunter Herkert, who posted nine points. The dominant performance also gave Herkert a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Jude Jones, who put up six points.

Jersey's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Carlyle, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-2.

Jersey is on the road again on Saturday to play Staunton at 2:30 p.m. Staunton will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Jersey surely won't give up without a fight. As for Carlyle, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 55-34 victory against Red Bud on the 3rd.
