Recap: South Eugene Axe vs. Sunset Apollos
The South Eugene Axe fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Sunset Apollos on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 89-84 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Apollos. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Friday (68), South Eugene still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why South Eugene lost, one person who can't be blamed is Trey Saunders. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 28 points and 10 rebounds. Saunders scored a full 33.3% of South Eugene's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Hawes, who scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds.
South Eugene's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Sunset, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
South Eugene will be playing in front of their home fans against South Salem at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Sunset, they will head out on the road to face off against Gresham at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
