Baseball Game Preview: St. Johns Country Day Spartans vs. Brito Panthers

The St. Johns Country Day Spartans will face off against the Brito Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as St. Johns Country Day comes in on nine and Brito on eight.

St. Johns Country Day is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past University Christian 8-7.

The team relied heavily on Jonas Wells, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Harris, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Brito came out on top against Miami Christian last Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 13-run fourth inning. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Victors 14-12.

Cristopher Guzman was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Brito's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 12-13 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Claudio De Los Santos, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Brito kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

St. Johns Country Day's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-8. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Brito, they now have a winning record of 15-14.
