Basketball Game Preview: Lucerne Valley Mustangs vs. Hesperia Christian Patriots

Lucerne Valley hasn't had much luck against Hesperia Christian recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Having just played yesterday, the Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Patriots at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lucerne Valley was handed a 39-point defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They skirted past Norton Science & Language Academy 39-37.

Meanwhile, Hesperia Christian took their contest on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 70-34 win over Bethel Christian.

Lucerne Valley better focus on containing Gabe Sanchez and Davide Marenco as the pair were huge in Hesperia Christian's win. Sanchez posted 18 points, while Marenco scored 17 points. Those 17 points gave Marenco a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Coogan, who had ten points.

The victory got Hesperia Christian back to even at 1-1. As for Lucerne Valley, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-1.

Lucerne Valley was dealt a bruising 78-26 loss at the hands of Hesperia Christian in their previous meeting back in January of 2022. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Mustangs were down 57-15.
