Basketball Recap: Blue Ridge Early College Comes Up Short

Blue Ridge Early College was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a blow against the Murphy Bulldogs, falling 99-37. The Bobcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 63-26.

Despite the defeat, Blue Ridge Early College saw an underclassman step up: freshman Victor Reyes went 7 of 13 en route to 19 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for Reyes. Logan Mathes also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Bradey Golden was a one-man wrecking crew for Murphy as he shot 5-for-8 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Golden a new career-high in rebounds. Abram Twiggs was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards.

Blue Ridge Early College's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Murphy, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4.

Blue Ridge Early College will square off against Swain County at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Murphy has already played their next contest, an 81-61 defeat against Gilmer on the 18th.
