Football Recap: Sunnyvale Piles Up the Points Against Wills Point

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Sunnyvale's strategy against Wills Point on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Sunnyvale blew Wills Point out of the water with a 62-7 final score. The win continues a trend for Sunnyvale in their matchups with Wills Point: they've now won six in a row.

Leading Sunnyvale to victory were Jaden Cross and Cayson Maupin. Cross rushed for 86 yards and three scores on only five carries, while Maupin threw for 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes. Cross' longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Greyson Walker also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sunnyvale was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 213 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 150 rushing yards in eight consecutive matchups.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 14 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Walker, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Wills Point still got an impressive performance from BRIAN MARTINEZ, who rushed for 78 yards and one TD on only 11 carries.

Sunnyvale's record now sits at 8-1. As for Wills Point, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Sunnyvale is taking a road trip to take on Canton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sunnyvale will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Wills Point, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ferris at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
