Softball Recap: Hilltop Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

Hilltop had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.1 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Southwood Knights as they made off with a 14-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Cadets, who have now won 18 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Hilltop let Brooklyn Kuszmaul and Kelsy Connolly run wild. Kuszmaul fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-3, while Connolly fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most RBI Kuszmaul has posted since back in May of 2024. Sophia Crossgrove was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Hilltop always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southwood only posted an OBP of .391.

Hilltop's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Southwood, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-6.

Hilltop has already played their next matchup, a 6-1 victory against Fremont on the 10th. As for Southwood, they are taking a road trip to challenge Maconaquah at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Braves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.31 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of.
