Preview: Mingo Central Miners vs. Philip Barbour Colts

The Mingo Central Miners will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Philip Barbour Colts at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Friday, while Mingo Central put up plenty of points, the same can't be said for Mount View. Mingo Central simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mount View 47-0 at home. Given Mingo Central's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Mount View is ranked 110th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mingo Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chris Ross, who threw for 166 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Amanti Lovett, who rushed for 47 yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Philip Barbour made easy work of Preston on Friday and carried off a 46-20 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for Philip Barbour.

Philip Barbour got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nathaniel Hulver out in front who rushed for 213 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Kaden Humphreys was another key contributor, rushing for 120 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries.

Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 8-2.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Mingo Central has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 191.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Philip Barbour struggles in that department as they've been even better at 306.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
