Volleyball Game Preview: Mesquite Wildcats vs. St. Mary's Knights

Mesquite is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will look to defend their home court against the St. Mary's Knights at 5:30 p.m. The last three games Mesquite has played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Last Friday, Mesquite didn't have quite enough to beat Agua Fria and fell 3-2.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Mesquite sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-11.

Meanwhile, St. Mary's entered their tilt with Sahuarita on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 3-0 victory.

While St. Mary's won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-10, 28-26.

The win got St. Mary's back to even at 7-7. As for Mesquite, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

Mesquite took their victory against St. Mary's in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
