2A District 1 recap September 17, 2013
Hennessey's William Arndt recorded the longest rushing play in 2A District 1 this season in his game against Jones last week. Arndt's team defeated the Longhorns as he sprinted for 76 yards on the play and finished with 94 in all.
Fans got a thrill when Edgar Fierro and Jose Sanchez connected against Jones. The connection went for 61 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
Hennessey's dynamic duo of Dylan Hatchel and Fierro proved tough for Dave Martin's team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hatchel threw for 79 yards and 3 touchdowns and Fierro had 61 yards receiving. Sanchez helped Hennessey's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 58 yards.
Rick Luetjen's team's dynamic duo of Hatchel and Fierro proved to be unstoppable against the Longhorns, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Fierro was the best wideout in the league this week as the Eagles beat Jones.
Bryce Stewart was the most successful running back in 2A District 1 this week. In 32 carries, he ran for 194 yards as Chisholm defeated the Longhorns. Teammate Danner Kiernan added to the ground attack by rushing for 44 yards.
Stewart was a passing and rushing force as the Longhorns bested Fairview.
Karsten Brady was a key player and the best on defense this week as Chisholm topped the Yellowjackets. The 5-foot-10 junior.
He was 12-20 with 0 interceptions.
Hatchel put up the best numbers through the air as the Eagles defeated Jones.
Hennessey's Hatchel and Sanchez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hatchel has thrown for 197 yards this season, while Sanchez has 6 catches for 102 yards. Stewart from Joey Reinart's team leads the league in rushing with 399 yards.
The Eagles moved up to 28 from 55 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Hennessey was able to make move up by topping the Longhorns 40-13.
