Downingtown West is 6-1 against Bayard Rustin since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Whippets will venture away from home to challenge the Golden Knights at 3:45 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Downingtown West 3.5, Bayard Rustin 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Downingtown West barely beat Sun Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Whippets never let the Vanguards get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Whippets in their matchups with the Vanguards: they've now won seven in a row.
Addison Carter made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Casey McWilliams was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Karly Swanson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Bayard Rustin hadn't done well against Coatesville recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Golden Knights had just enough and edged out the Red Raiders 5-3. Winning may never get old, but the Golden Knights sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Ashley Falcone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Bayard Rustin got a big performance out of Jenna Kraft, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Liv Shuffler, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Downingtown West's record is now 8-3. As for Bayard Rustin, their record now sits at 10-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Downingtown West hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bayard Rustin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Downingtown West's way against Bayard Rustin when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Downingtown West made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Whippets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
