Softball Game Preview: Hamilton County Foxes vs. Massac County Patriots

Hamilton County is 0-4 against Massac County since May of 2017 but things could change on Friday. Hamilton County will challenge Massac County at 4:30 p.m. Hamilton County has given up an average of 11.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Hamilton County is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They won by a run and slipped past Vienna 16-15. The Foxes haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Rayci Phelps was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Phelps was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those RBI were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Tinlea Webb was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Addison Kelley, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.

Hamilton County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Massac County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past Century 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Patriots have posted since April 2, 2024.

Hamilton County's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Massac County, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Hamilton County came up short against Massac County in their previous matchup back in June of 2021, falling 5-0. Can Hamilton County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
