Baseball Recap: Marlington Gets the Win

Marlington lost to Minerva on Tuesday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Dukes sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Lions.

Xavier Woods spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marlington saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Walder, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Marlington is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.17 runs across that stretch. As for Minerva, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.

Looking ahead, Marlington will be playing at home against Sandy Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Dukes' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Minerva, they will head out to take on Beaver Local at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Beavers have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
