Park Vista is 8-2 against Palm Beach Gardens since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cobras will venture away from home to challenge the Gators at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Park Vista 2.8, Palm Beach Gardens 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Park Vista took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 9-5 victory over Centennial. The Cobras haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Angeline Mergen made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits. Mergen was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Hannah Durante was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Isabella Golas was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Park Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Centennial only posted an OBP of .400.
Meanwhile, Palm Beach Gardens had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Raiders. With that victory, the Gators brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Shea Towns tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 6.1 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Palm Beach Gardens got a big performance out of Brynn Catasus, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was Catasus' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaman Reno, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Park Vista pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Palm Beach Gardens, their record is now 15-5.
Park Vista's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Cobras have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Palm Beach Gardens, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Park Vista continue to outrun the ball?
Park Vista couldn't quite finish off Palm Beach Gardens when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Cobras avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
