Baseball Recap: Marinette Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Little Chute, Marinette was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They walked away with a 9-6 win over the Waupaca Comets. The victory continues a trend for the Marines in their matchups with the Comets: they've now won three in a row.

Cooper Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Chase MacGregor was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Marinette: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one home run, but 2-3 otherwise. Wyatt Stauss was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Marinette was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Marinette's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Waupaca, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Comets beat Marinette by a score of 4-2 later that day.
