Preview: Arthur County Wolves vs. Shelton Bulldogs
Two dominant backs in Dane Pilakowski and Ben Myers are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Arthur County Wolves will square off against the Shelton Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Arthur County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 547 points over their last eight games.
Arthur County stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 60-8 victory over Wallace. Given Arthur County's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Wallace is ranked 97th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Pilakowski, who rushed for 131 yards and five touchdowns on only 14 carries. Pilakowski is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last eight games he's played. Reese Swanson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Wallace to a paltry 142 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Arthur County's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Wallace's QB won't forget Justin Wenzel anytime soon given Wenzel sacked him six times.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 52 points the game before, Shelton were a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 49-7 loss at the hands of Sumner-Eddyville-Miller.
Despite the defeat, Shelton saw an underclassman step up: Reilly Jensen rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown.
Arthur County's win was their eighth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.4 points per game. As for Shelton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as Arthur County and Shelton haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Arthur County commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 9.1 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Shelton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.9 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
