NFCA MaxPreps Awards For The Week Ending May 26

MaxPreps NFCA Players of the Week (Week 5/20-5/26/2012)

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Seniors Brooke Bell of C.B. Aycock (Pikeville, N.C.) High School, Montana Wear of Felicity-Franklin (Felicity, Ohio) High School, junior Samantha Cordova of Edison (Huntington Beach, Calif.) High School, and sophomores Fallon Bevino of Foran (Milford, Conn.) High School, and Jacqueline Roof of Lone Oak (Paducah, Ky.) High School have all been named as the High School Players of the Week for their respective regions by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for games played through May 26, 2012.

In the South Region, Bell went 2-0 on the mound this week throwing her seventh and eight consecutive shutouts. The senior retired 20 of the 50 batters she faced, and only allowed 4 hits in 14 innings pitched. On the year Bell owns a .71 ERA and has struck out 172 batters in 129 innings pitched. Her efforts on the mound helped the Falcons improve to 12-0 in conference, 29-2 overall, and a #4 ranking in North Carolina.

Representing the North Region, Wear picked up two more victories and tossed her seventh consecutive shutout, increasing her total to 22 for the season. The senior has not allowed an earned run in her last 48 innings pitched, and has held opponents to a .100 batting average. So far this year she has an ERA of .12, with 365 strikeouts against only 19 walks in 181 innings pitched. The Cardinals are 28-0 overall, 10-0 in conference, and are currently ranked #5 in the state of Ohio.

From the West Region, Cordova improved her overall record to 25-4 with two complete game shutouts over Canyon (Calif.) and Orange Lutheran (Calif.). The junior scattered 8 hits and struck out 12 and has not allowed an earned run in her last 21 innings. Of her 25 wins this year, 14 of them have been shutouts. Cordova currently owns a .68 ERA with 181 strikeouts in 185 innings pitched. The Chargers are ranked #8 in California.

Out of the East Region, Bevino had an outstanding week at the plate as she helped her team go 3-0 on the week. The sophomore hit .615 belting out 3 doubles and six RBI. She led the team in a tight 7-6 win over Amity Regional going 2-3 with a double, RBI and a run scored to help lead Foran to their first Southern Connecticut Conference Championship. So far this season Bevino has struck out only 4 times in 85 at-bats. The Lions are currently ranked #4 in Connecticut as they head into post-season.



Rounding out this week's awards from the South Central Region, Roof led the region hitting .833 with 2 doubles, 3 triples, 5 runs scored and 7 RBI helping her team go 3-0 on the week. The sophomore's bat was particularly hot against Reidland (Ky.) as she went 3-3 at the plate and had a hand in 6 of Lone Oak's 10 runs. With her efforts at the plate Roof raised her overall average to .491 with 39 RBI and 44 runs scored. The wins improved the Eagles record to 33-4 and a #11 ranking in Kentucky.
