Baseball Game Preview: Cesar Chavez Champions vs. Apollo Hawks

The Cesar Chavez Champions will venture away from home to face off against the Apollo Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Cesar Chavez is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.

Cesar Chavez gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 9-4 win over Browne. The victory continues a trend for the Champions in their matchups with the Bruins: they've now won six in a row.

Adolfo Pacheco was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesus Benitez, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cesar Chavez kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Apollo didn't have quite enough to beat West Point on Friday and fell 6-5.

Rey Garcia put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Garcia was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run.

In other batting news, Roberto Quinones made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Alex Covarrubias, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Apollo's loss dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Cesar Chavez, their record now sits at 14-8.

Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cesar Chavez has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .547. However, it's not like Apollo struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Cesar Chavez came up short against Apollo in their previous meeting back in April of 2016, falling 8-3. Can the Champions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
