Football Recap: Wharton Comes Up Short

After soaring to 36 points the game before, Wharton was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They were outmatched by the La Marque Cougars and fell 36-6. The matchup marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Even if they lost, Wharton's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Anthony Hatchett refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Wharton got some further help from Raelon Thompson: he forced one fumble and made 16 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Cory Hosea had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 267 yards and four scores while picking up 10.7 yards per carry for La Marque. Hosea's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Deuce Walker, who threw for 190 yards and one touchdown while completing 80% of his passes.

This is the second loss in a row for Wharton and nudges their season record down to 3-3. As for La Marque, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wharton will face off against Harmony School of Innovation at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will be up against the Mustangs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 31.2 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for La Marque, they will take on Harmony School of Innovation at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 50.33 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
