Softball Recap: Independence Drops Season-High Score on Spring Hill

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Independence). Everything went their way against the Spring Hill Raiders on Monday as they made off with a 19-0 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-2 back in March.

Kerrigan Riebe made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Logan Riebe was incredible, firing off two home runs and seven RBI while going 2-for-2. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Reagan Maxon was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Independence's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-14. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Spring Hill, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Independence will challenge Summit at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Spring Hill, they will face off against Shelbyville Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders are facing the Golden Eagles at the right time seeing as the Golden Eagles are stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
