Recap: John Paul II Guardians vs. John Paul II Centurions
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Geneva, the John Paul II Guardians were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They blew past the Centurions 66-38 at home. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-17.
When it comes to explaining why the Centurions lost, one person who can't be blamed is Joseph Mata. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 12 points and 18 rebounds. Mata hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 12 straight games. Another player making a difference was Teddy Chavez, who scored four points along with five steals.
The Guardians' win bumped their record up to 10-13. As for the Centurions, they dropped their record down to 13-19 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. John Paul II will take on Holy Cross at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Holy Cross has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 205 points over their last three games. John Paul II won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Hill Country Christian School of Austin at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Hill Country Christian School of Austin is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 13 games.
