Softball Recap: Jay County Beats Elwood for Their Third Straight Win

Jay County waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Elwood Panthers with a sharp 15-5 victory. That's two games straight that the Patriots have won by exactly ten runs.

Mallory Winner made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Winner was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jay County got a massive performance out of Jaelynn Lykins, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Brenna Ruble, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Jay County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elwood only posted a batting average of .231.

Jay County's win bumped their record up to 14-2. As for Elwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Jay County will venture away from home to challenge Southern Wells at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Elwood, they will welcome Alexandria-Monroe at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
