Basketball Recap: Avon Find Success

Avon proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 45) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They pulled ahead with a 56-55 photo finish over the South Shore Vo-Tech Vikings. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won five in a row.

Avon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thomas Edwards, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards. Edwards has been hot for a while, having posted 17 or more points the last 20 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Douglas Ateku, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds.

Avon's record now sits at 2-0. As for South Shore Vo-Tech, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Avon is headed away from home for the first time to face off against Upper Cape Cod RVT at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. South Shore Vo-Tech will take on Tri-County RVT in a holiday battle at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
