Football Recap: Benedictine Starts Season with Defeat on the Road + How To Watch

Benedictine had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell just short of the Colquitt County Packers by a score of 27-24. The match was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Cadets couldn't quite close it out.

Benedictine lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Stephen Cannon, who threw for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 34 yards. Stanley Smart Jr. helped out on the ground, rushing for 83 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Even if they lost, Benedictine's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: LaDamion Guyton, Kameron Cody, and Isaac Scott, who each picked up one sack apiece. Benedictine got some further help from Guyton: he picked up a sack and made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Colquitt County found their leader in sophomore Cohen Lawson, who rushed for 22 yards and two TDs, and also threw for 142 yards and one touchdown.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benedictine will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Buford at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Colquitt County, they will challenge Monroe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
