Baseball Recap: Desert Christian's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Desert Christian can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Tuesday. They came out on top against the St. Augustine Catholic Wolves by a score of 6-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Caden Esquerra was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. That run marked the first that he scored this season.

Esquerra wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Eric Williams, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave Williams a new career-high in hits. Samuel Alday also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Desert Christian's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Desert Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Palo Verde at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Palo Verde is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they will head out to take on Benson at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
