Preview: Galena Grizzlies vs. McQueen Lancers
Galena is 1-9 against McQueen since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Having just played yesterday, the Galena Grizzlies will get right back to it and host the McQueen Lancers at 5:15 p.m. on January 25th. Galena is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
On Wednesday, things could have been worse for Galena, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-44 loss to Spanish Springs. Galena has not had much luck with Spanish Springs recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ramona Peterson, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Turner, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, McQueen was able to grind out a solid victory over Reed on Tuesday, taking the game 38-29.
Caitlin Hilson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Leah Nisenfeld was another key contributor, scoring five points along with nine rebounds and six steals.
Galena dropped their record down to 4-17 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for McQueen, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-13.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Galena have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31 rebounds per game. However, it's not like McQueen struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Galena didn't have too much breathing room in their match against McQueen in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 44-38 victory. Will Galena repeat their success, or does McQueen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
