Preview: Palmer Ridge Bears vs. Lewis-Palmer Rangers
Palmer Ridge is 1-9 against Lewis-Palmer since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Palmer Ridge Bears will be staying on the road to face off against the Lewis-Palmer Rangers at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Palmer Ridge posted their closest victory yet this season on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 45-43 victory over Pueblo County.
Jimmer Weir was his usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with six steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Kraft, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lewis-Palmer had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 75-51 margin over Cheyenne Mountain. Given Lewis-Palmer's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Cheyenne Mountain is ranked 267th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Cohen Edmondson, who scored 20 points. Nate Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Palmer Ridge now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Lewis-Palmer, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Palmer Ridge suffered a grim 66-44 defeat to Lewis-Palmer in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Palmer Ridge avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
