Softball Game Preview: Mapletown Maples vs. Carmichaels Mighty Mikes

Mapletown hasn't had much luck against Carmichaels recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Maples will welcome the Mighty Mikes at 4:15 p.m.

On Wednesday, Mapletown came up short against Bethlehem Center and fell 9-5.

Makenna Lotspeich was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Marley Seward, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Carmichaels strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against Jefferson-Morgan.

Bailey Barnyak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 12 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Carys McConnell, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Ke'Lani Chun also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Carmichaels pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.5 runs this season. As for Mapletown, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
