Basketball Recap: Trinity Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

On Monday, the Trinity Blazers strolled past the Plainfield South Cougars with points to spare, taking the game 65-48. Given the Blazers' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Cougars are ranked 308th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Plainfield South lost, don't look at Layla Lesure. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. What's more, Lesure also racked up three blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Zahira Edwards, who posted 12 points.

The victory made it two in a row for Trinity and bumps their season record up to 15-7. As for Plainfield South, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.

Trinity will host Providence Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Plainfield South, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 57-54 loss against Joliet Central on the 22nd.
