Basketball Recap: Brooklyn Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Tyler Cox and Devin Hardwick

If Brooklyn was feeling good fresh off their 63-37 takedown of Christian Community two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Brooklyn Hurricanes took a 70-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oberlin The Phoenix on Friday. The Hurricanes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the The Phoenix apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Devin Hardwick and Tyler Cox certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Hardwick almost dropped a triple-double on 22 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists, while Cox posted 16 points and seven rebounds. That was a full 36.7% of Brooklyn's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Carden, who put up nine points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Brooklyn was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Josiah Bowen-Pride was nothing short of spectacular for Oberlin: he went 6 of 13 on his way to 20 points in addition to six boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Korrie Freeman, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards.

Brooklyn's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Oberlin, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.

Brooklyn wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 78-28 defeat against Fairview on the 7th. As for Oberlin, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-46 loss against Columbia on the 7th.
