Softball Preview: Clinton County Bulldogs vs. Cookeville Cavaliers
The Clinton County Bulldogs will square off against the Cookeville Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Clinton County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Cookeville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Clinton County is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Cumberland County just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. The Bulldogs were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the five contests prior), but the Panthers' pitchers proved too tough.
Meanwhile, Cookeville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Wilson Central.
Kadie Presley and Kali Webb stepped up to the plate in a big way. Presley got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one double, while Webb went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Gabbi Romero was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Cookeville's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Clinton County, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 15-6.
