Basketball Game Preview: GVCS Broadfording Lions vs. Southern Rams

GVCS Broadfording is 0-4 against Southern since January of 2020 but things could change on Thursday. The GVCS Broadfording Lions will head out to square off against the Southern Rams at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as GVCS Broadfording comes in on three and Southern on five.

GVCS Broadfording will head into Tuesday's match hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 27-point drubbing they dealt Faith Christian Academy on Tuesday. GVCS Broadfording simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Faith Christian Academy 72-45. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 21 points or more this season.

GVCS Broadfording found their leader in sophomore Fernando Garcia, who went 14 for 21 on his way to 34 points in addition to five boards and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Garcia has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Monroe, who posted seven points and ten rebounds.

GVCS Broadfording was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Faith Christian Academy only posted five assists.

Meanwhile, Southern didn't have too much trouble with Hampshire on Tuesday as they won 68-52. The win was all the more spectacular given the Rams' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 154th in Maryland, while the Trojans are ranked 38th in West Virginia).

GVCS Broadfording pushed their record up to 9-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points per game. As for Southern, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

GVCS Broadfording came up short against Southern when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 66-59. Thankfully for GVCS Broadfording, Isaiah Keller (who went 7 of 10 en route to 21 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
