Baseball Game Preview: Waverly Warriors vs. DeWitt Panthers

Waverly is 0-6 against DeWitt since May of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Warriors will welcome the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

DeWitt will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Waverly extended their winning streak to six on Monday. The Warriors' pitcher stepped up to hand Everett a 16-0 shutout. The contest marked the Warriors' most dominant victory of the season so far.

TJ Stewart made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Stewart was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Iggy Arroyo, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. That double marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was James Darnell, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Waverly always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, DeWitt got the win against Holt on Monday by a conclusive 15-2. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won seven in a row.

Waverly pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for DeWitt, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
