Basketball Recap: Newman International Academy Comes Up Short

Newman International Academy won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They were beaten by the San Gabriel Academy Eagles 66-33. The loss continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

Newman International Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 15-14. As for San Gabriel Academy, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-10.

Both are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Newman International Academy will challenge Great Hearts Irving at 10:00 a.m. on February 1st. One thing working in Great Hearts Irving's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests. As for San Gabriel Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Takoma Academy on Saturday. San Gabriel Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Takoma Academy likes a good challenge.
