Baseball Recap: Wabash Apaches vs. Peru Tigers
Wabash lost a close one when they played last Tuesday but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on Wednesday was a bit more commanding. They lost 16-6 to the Peru Tigers. Wabash has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Keaton Fields made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
On Peru's side, Ian Potts made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Potts was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
In other batting news, Jaxson Manriquez and Reis Bellar did most of the damage at the plate: Manriquez scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Bellar scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Manriquez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now stolen at least one in the last three games he's played. Lucas Musser was another key contributor, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and a double.
Wabash's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Peru, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wabash will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against North Miami at 5:30 p.m. As for Peru, they will face off against Pioneer at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pioneer will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Peru surely won't give up without a fight.
