Basketball Game Preview: Deshler Dragons vs. Sterling Jets

The Deshler Dragons will face off against the Sterling Jets at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Friday, Deshler was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 43-38 to Silver Lake.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Easton Nash, who went 7 for 16 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds. Those 19 points gave him a new career-high. Carson Sieber was another key player, putting up seven points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Sterling was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 67-29 loss at the hands of Exeter-Milligan/Friend. Having soared to a lofty 58 points in the game before, the Jets couldn't push the score so high this time.

Deshler will have to keep a close watch on Owen Uher and Kade Horstman, a pair of players who had a big impact on Sterling's prior game. Uher posted seven points, while Horstman put up nine points.

Sterling's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Deshler, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1.

Everything went Deshler's way against Sterling when the teams last played back in December of 2023, as Deshler made off with a 43-18 win. Does Deshler have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sterling turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
