Football Recap: Blake Winters Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Carbondale + How To Watch

Marion won the last time they faced Carbondale and things went their way on Friday too. The Wildcats secured a 39-35 W over the Terriers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Marion's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Blake Winters, who picked up 89 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 30 yards and a pair of scores. That's the most receiving yards Winters has posted since back in October of 2024. Marcus Hazell also helped with two touchdowns in total.

Marion's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out Davin Wooley three times. Alex Henry was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.

Carbondale lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Wooley, who threw for 268 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 66 yards and one score. Javion Oliver also helped out as he racked up 134 receiving yards.

Marion's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Carbondale, they dropped their record down to 3-5 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marion will square off against Mattoon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will be up against the Greenwave's rather soft defense (which has allowed 32 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Carbondale, they will face off against Mascoutah at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
