Football Recap: Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets vs. Newark Wildcats
Mt. Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 36-14 to the Newark Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Yellowjackets of the 35-28 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2023.
Although Mt. Vernon took the loss, they still got scores from Mason Richards and Jake Taylor.
Even if they lost, Mt. Vernon's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Caden Hill was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up twohimself. His also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up two sacks and making three total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Newark, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will challenge Hayes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mt. Vernon focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday. As for Newark, they will host Zanesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
